Quarzite is a naturally occurring metamorphic rock that is formed when sandstone comes into contact with magma in the earth’s crust, causing it to crystallize into gorgeous colors and patterns. Aesthetically, quartzite is very similar to marble, sharing similar color characteristics and veining patterns, but physically, it is much more resistant to spills and chemicals. Because of its durability, heat resistance, quartzite has applications indoors and outdoors.
Sealing your quartzite will help to protect it from spills, and making sure to reseal it at least once a year will keep it looking as good as new. Using a PH-neutral cleaner or a mixture of mild soap and water is a perfect way to clean up your surface. Like with most stone surfaces, avoid any vinegar, lemon, or any other acidic cleaners, and make sure to wipe up liquids with a high acid content right away, like wine. When wiping, use a polishing cloth or a microfiber cloth to avoid scratching your surface. Quartzite is heat resistant, and can have hot items placed on it, but it is still susceptible to scratches, so we recommend using a cutting board as opposed to cutting directly on the surface of the stone.
